The Verb TAKE
The verb take can be used in many different ways in English. Here are some examples:
1. Jane usually takes the bus to work.
2. Do you take sugar in your coffee?
3. I like to take a walk after dinner.
4. Don't forget to take your coat when you leave.
5. Mr. Phillips asked Mark to take a seat in his office.
6. The conference will take place in Room 514.
7. Mr. Morrison will take part in the discussion.
8. The plane for New York takes off at seven o'clock.
9. Roger will take care of this problem.
10. This report will take hours to type.
11. How long does it take to get from here to Manhattan?
12. Take it easy ! You're going too fast.
13. John takes after his mother. They really look alike.
14. You should take turns driving. It's a long trip.
15. After they ordered dinner, the waiter took away the menu.
16. He speaks English so well, he's often taken for an American.
17. You can have either one.. Take your pick.
18. You don't have to hurry. Take your time.
19. The small company was taken over by the big one.
20. Look at that huge car, it takes up two parking spaces.
Aunque su significado primordial es "tomar", el verbo take se combina a menudo con otros
vocablos que le confieren diversos significados:
